My company completed this asbestos abatement project in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. This Asbestos Abatement project was at the old Ocean Liner Hotel in Myrtle Beach. Many old hotels have many harmful materials that should be tested. My company performs testing and removal services of asbestos. At the Ocean Liner Hotel we found ceiling texture and drywall compound tested positive for asbestos.
Asbestos Containing Materials
Below are some of the asbestos containing materials found in old domestic and commercial buildings:
- ceiling texture
- drywall compound
- floor tiles and floor mastic
- TSI (thermal System Insulation) systems
Asbestos Removal and Containment
In the above photo, I show how the work area was contained at the motel. For example, we carefully enclosed work areas where asbestos removal would be carried out. In addition, within these contained areas, we used negative air machines. The negative is used while while scraping and removing all asbestos materials. Our negative air machine will prevent escape of dangerous fibers. Also, this system also filters the air to protect workers inside.
Running a Final Air Clearance
At the completion of this project, the motel owner employed a licensed air monitor to ensure air quality during removal. When our removal was completed, a final air clearance was conducted by the air monitor. The air monitor is not affiliated with my company to ensure no conflict of interest.
